What is a good score in TOEFL?

What is a good score in TOEFL?

If you are planning to take the TOEFL test or have already taken the test, it is very normal to wonder what a good TOEFL score is. As frustrating as it is to wait 10 days before your results are published, it is equally frustrating to not know if the score you have received is good enough!

As with any other English Language Proficiency test, you can’t pass or fail the TOEFL test. Majority of the universities clearly state on their website of the exact score that is required to qualify for the academic programs they offer. However, it is important to understand that the minimum score required could vary. Some universities may accept score as low as 70 or may require score as high as 110. Clearly, a good TOEFL score for you is simply the score required by the university that you are interested in.

Firstly, it is important to understand that the total score range for TOEFL is between 0 and 120 where you will also get scores from 0 and 30 for each individual section: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The total TOEFL score is the sum of all four individual section scores.

Along with your TOEFL scores, you will receive your performance feedback which contains separate descriptions of your general level in each section of the TOEFL test.

There are 4 or 5 proficiency levels for each of the skills and you can refer to the table below for your proficiency level:
