STUDY PLAN FOR IELTS- TIPS

STUDY PLAN FOR IELTS- TIPS

The study plan for IELTS is dedicated to all the students who are currently preparing for their IELTS examinations, taking classes or preparing on their own.  As with any other examination, having an effective study plan for IELTS is very essential to achieve your desired scores and we will help you develop yours!

In simple words, a study plan refers to organizing a schedule setting study times and goals which will eventually help you save time and boost your scores.

Identifying your strengths and weaknesses is one of the initial steps as you will have a clear idea of what you need to work on. It is suggested that you take the mock tests offered at NIEC. Our instructors will help you learn about your strengths and weaknesses. You can then work on your study plan accordingly that will focus on strengthening your weaknesses.

Keeping in mind your plans to appear for the test or the test date, you should carefully decide on how much time you can spend every day. Your study plan could differ depending on the amount of time you have before you take your test date.

Carrying out a research and understanding the details of IELTS can be really helpful for students to ace their tests. It includes learning about the format of the test, question types and various skills assessed, assessment criteria and even understanding how the scores are calculated. The information on the test can be simply found on our website niec.edu.np/course/ielts or, you can also visit the official website www.ielts.org for details.

Of course it is always better and easier when you get professional help or take classes but again classes will not be enough unless you are ready to commit time outside classroom. Taking classes for IELTS and appearing for the mock tests will help you have an idea of the reasons why you are not being able to achieve your desired scores as the instructors are experienced in identifying the strengths and weaknesses easily.

When developing your study plan, it is important that you do not fix any hard and fast rules but, make sure you allot time to practice each day. Skills development takes consistent and regular practice and cannot be developed overnight. Your study plan should also have time allotted to review and reflect on your own development.

Always set realistic time frames and goals in your study plan. IELTS is a test of English language which clearly means you need to work on your language skills. Learning a language or improving your language skills requires a lot of dedication and consistency and practicing regularly is the only key!

Your study plan should have time allotted to doing something in English every day: read something in English, watch something in English, write something in English, listen to something in English or, practice speaking in English.

Reading in English can include reading online articles related to IELTS and vocabulary, reading books or novels, reading newspaper articles or blogs.

Listening to English can include listening to podcasts or audiobooks. You should also practice writing essays on the past and current topics that usually appear in the IELTS writing which can be easily available online. You should make yourself familiar with the different question types in all the sections of the IELTS.

You can practice speaking with your study partner discussing various topics in the IELTS speaking or, you could also practice with your instructor.

Taking a lot of practice tests and timing yourself is very important to include in your study plan. You can always customize your study plans keeping in mind your strengths and weaknesses.

Overall, having a study plan is not going to be enough unless you are willing to dedicate time as per your plan which is why you should focus on realistic study times and goals.

And again, PRACTICE IS THE KEY!
