IELTS- On the Exam Day
We receive a lot of questions from our students regarding the test day. It is obvious to feel nervous and anxious on the test day so it is better you prepare yourself for the same.
You will receive a confirmation in your email that will include details on the timing and procedures of the test day. We recommend students that they check the locations of their test venue beforehand so that they will not have problems regarding directions. You cannot afford to lose any time on the test day looking for your venue as you may not be allowed to take the test if you are late. And with the test fees you have paid, you cannot miss your test henceforth, BE ON TIME! It is always better when you arrive early.
As you will not be allowed to carry any food items into the test room, it is recommended that you eat something before the test. However, you will be allowed to carry a water bottle that is transparent.
There isn’t a dress code to take your tests and wearing something comfortable would be just fine as long as you feel confident.
Make sure you are well rested and get a good sleep before the test day. The writing, listening and reading tests take 2 hours and 40 minutes which is a long time with you having to constantly process a lot of information which can often be draining.
Do not forget to carry your identification document (passport) as you will not be allowed to take the test without it.
You should carry pencils and an eraser for your R, L, and W tests however; this will not be required for your speaking test. The speaking test may be offered few days before or after the other tests and it is important that you check the details of your Speaking test in your confirmation email.
You will not be allowed to carry your mobile phones or other electronic devices into the test room. You should switch off your mobile phones or other electronics and place it with other personal belongings outside the test room. There are usually secure areas designated outside the test rooms for your personal belongings.
Once you get into the test room, you should be seated calmly and listen and follow any instructions given. Do not open the question booklet unless you are asked to do so.
There are no breaks between the different sections and if you wish to use the washroom, you should raise your hand without disturbing other test takers. In case of any questions that you may have during the test, you should simply raise your hand to ask for help from the invigilator.
During the Listening section, you should make sure that your headphones are working fine and that you can hear the audio properly. If not, you should immediately let your invigilator know about the same.
There will be a clock available in the test room and you should know where it is as you may need to be careful of the time limits especially in your Reading and Writing section.
You will be given 10 minutes time after the Listening section to transfer your answers to the answer sheet but, it is important to remember that you will not be given extra time for the Reading section.
You will not be allowed to carry your question booklets with you so make sure you return it.
Most importantly, remain calm and you’ll do just fine if you have prepared yourself enough for the test.
