Documents Required

As mentioned in the official government website of Canada, below are the documents required to apply for a study permit:

Application for study permit:You will need to submit the complete application form or your study permit along with the checklist (including a barcode) and study permit questionnaire in the application package.

Proof of Acceptance: You must provide a letter of acceptance issued from your university, a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.

Proof of Identity: A valid passport is also an essential document required.

Two recent passport-size photos: Students should also provide two recent passport-size photographs with their names date of birth written on the back of each photo.

Proof of Financial Support: Applicants must provide proof of financial support in order to prove that you can fund your studies and stay in Canada. Some essential supporting financial documents could include:

  • Proof of education loan from bank
  • Bank statement for at least past 4 months
  • A bank draft that could be converted to Canadian dollars
  • Proof you paid tuition and housing fees
  • Proof of funding paid within Canada, if you are granted any financial aid or scholarships

Letter of Explanation: You should provide a letter of explanation to help the visa officer understand why you want to study in Canada and that you understand all the responsibilities as an international student.

Certificat d’acceptation du Québec: If you are intending to study in Quebec, you will need a certificat d’acception du Québec (CAQ) issued by the Gouvernement du Québec.

Pre- Medical Examination: Submission of the medical form provided by an approved panel physician should be submitted along with the application.

Transcripts and Certificates: You should provide a copy of your previous mark sheets and transcripts.

English Language Proficiency Certificate: A copy of your English language proficiency certificate should also be included.

Documents that are not in English language are to be accompanied by a certified English translation.

BIOMETRICS: If you submit a paper application to your VAC, you can give your biometrics if you have booked an appointment.

In case of online application, you have to wait till you receive the biometric instruction letter that tells you to give your biometrics.

In Nepal, you can get your biometrics done at VFS global by getting and appointment.

Additional documents: You may also need to submit a police report if required. You will be notified of any further additional documents required during the application process.

Interview: An interview could also be required and you could be requested to attend one.

University Selection

Visa Fee

Applying for a study permit costs CA$150. You can apply online through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)’s website or you can also contact the responsible visa office for your region. The Visa Application Centre (VAC) responsible for Nepal is New Delhi.

Nepalese students require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) that you will be automatically issued with if your application for study permit isapproved.
