Choose your University and Course
The very first step to studying in Canada is researching your study options based on your interests and previous grades. The major factors that will help you narrow down your choices are what you want to study, where you want to live in Canada, scholarships and financial aids offered and the costs.
When choosing a university in Canada, it is important to determine its status as a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Provinces and territories in Canada approve or designate schools that can enroll international students which are known as designated learning institutions.

Understand the Requirements
In order to get through the admission procedures, it is important for international students to understand that each province and territory in Canada is in charge of their own education system. Each of the designated learning institutions has its own rules for the application process, including the English language requirements and it is important to understand the requirements of the particular university and course that you are applying to. It is suggested that you begin planning for your Canadian student life at least a year prior to getting started with your application process.

Apply to the University
Canadian universities generally offer three intakes: Fall Semester (starts in September), Winter Semester (starts in January) and Summer Semester (starts in April/ May and is available only for limited programs). It is suggested that you apply minimum 6 to 9 months prior to the application deadline.
Universities and courses have their own requirements and varied application fees and it is best to contact the admission office for the details. Generally, the universities require international students to provide with the following documents:
- Online Application Form: Complete application form should be submitted.
- Official Academic Transcript: You are required to provide the official mark sheet/ transcript of your previous educational qualification.
- Certificate of English Proficiency Test: Students who have English as their second language are required to submit a certificate of English Proficiency Test (IELTS, TOEFL or PTE). Canada also offers courses in French language.
- Official Score Reports of Standardized Tests: Official score reports of tests like GRE/ GMAT/ SAT should be submitted depending upon your course.
- Statement of Purpose: A write-up introducing yourself, your interests, academic goals, achievements, related experience, future- plans etc. This document should overall include the reason you’ve selected the particular university and the course.
- Recommendation Letter: Recommendation letter from your past institution is also another document required by the university.
- Passport: A scanned of your passport is also required.
- Work Experience Letter: Work experience letter if you have any.
- Curriculum Vitae: Updated curriculum vitae especially for graduates with your personal details, experiences,education, interest etc.
- Bank Balance Certificate: Universities could also ask for a bank balance certificate stating the funds available for your studies.
- Affidavit of Financial Support: It is a letter signed by your parents or sponsor who will fund your studies and stay in Canada.
- Certificates of Extracurricular Activities: You could also provide your certificates of extracurricular activities if any.
Documents that are not in English will have to be accompanied by an English translation and should be certified.

Prepare your study in Canada budget
When you get accepted, it is required that you accept the offer and proceed to pay your fees in order to confirm your enrollment. International students are required to pay the tuition fees for a minimum of 1 year depending upon the requirement of their university. The tuition fees for an international undergraduate student is CA$29714 per year and the tuition fees for a post graduate degree is CA$17774 per year on average. Your university will advise you on the payment methods accepted.

Get your Acceptance Letter- Apply for your Study Permit
Universities may conduct interviews in the process of reviewing your applications. If you are accepted, you will receive an Acceptance Letter from your university after which you can apply for your study permit. In case of conditional acceptance, you need to fulfill other requirements and provide any additional document requested by your university.
Study permit is a document issued to international students to study at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. Please note that your study permit is not your visa and you will also need a visa as your study permit will not allow you to enter Canada.

Get Ready to Begin your Student Life in Canada
If your application for study permit is approved, you will receive a Letter of Introduction. This letter is not your study permit and you will need to carry this letter along with you to show it to a border service officer when you arrive in Canada. This letter is also called the port of entry letter of introduction.
The final approved study permit is issued by the border services officer at the port of entry.
Please note that your study permit is not your visa and Nepalese student also require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). However, you will be automatically issued your TRV if your study permit application is approved. You will not require a separate application or fees for it.
With your TRV in your passport and your letter of introduction, you can travel to Canada.
